Canadian Electricity Association Honours Industry Leaders in Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility

TORONTO, Ontario – November 15, 2017. Today, the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) will honour industry leaders in sustainable development and corporate responsibility at an awards ceremony in Toronto.

"Sustainable practices and responsible corporate policies are mandatory requirements by all CEA members,” said Sergio Marchi, President and CEO of CEA. “The winners of the 2017 Sustainable Electricity™ awards have demonstrated an unrivalled commitment to providing electricity services in a sustainable, safe, reliable, and cost-effective manner.”

Sustainable Electricity is a sector-wide initiative implemented jointly by CEA and its members that promotes the integration of sustainable, responsible policies in business decision-making, and continuous improvement of environmental, social, and economic performance. The initiative is built on a foundation of a thorough and rigorous process involving all electricity member companies, as well as insight and leadership from a Public Advisory Panel. The following recipients are being honoured with Sustainable Electricity™ awards in recognition of their outstanding achievements in sustainability and corporate responsibility over the past year:

  • Award for Integrated Approach to Sustainability – Nalcor Energy

In recognition of Nalcor Energy’s outstanding leadership in the development, implementation, and maintenance of an integrated sustainability strategy within the company.

  • Award for Continuous Performance Improvement – Ontario Power Generation (OPG)

In recognition of OPG’s commitment to sustainability performance improvement through new projects, programs, and initiatives.

  • Award for Leadership in External Collaboration and Partnerships – Saskatoon Light & Power

In recognition of Saskatoon Light & Power’s strong commitment to external collaboration and partnerships with Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and other stakeholders.

  • Award for Individual Leadership on Sustainability – Anthony M. Haines

President & CEO, Toronto Hydro

In recognition of Mr. Haines’ outstanding leadership on sustainability issues within the electricity sector.
