On Sunday, January 14, CTV National News had a segment that explained the role of Alberta’s Electric System Operator (AESO) in maintaining grid stability for the province to prevent rotating black outs. Albertans were asked to unplug and switch off their lights to ensure essential services were taken care of. This prevention tactic will become more prevalent as electricity demands increase over the next few years.
Electricity Canada President and CEO Francis Bradley talked about how this is a national concern. “Right across North America there’s an increase in concerns with respect to medium to long term reliability because the margins are getting shorter and getting tighter”.
