Nominations Now Open for 2016 Electric Vehicle Dealership Awards

OTTAWA, Ontario – June 6, 2016 The Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) and Plug’n Drive are pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the2016 CanadianElectric Vehicle Dealership Awards.

“The electrification of transportation, particularly the adoption of electric vehicles, holds the key to drastically cutting Canada’s emissions,” said the Honourable Sergio Marchi, President and CEO of the Canadian Electricity Association. “Canada’s electricity sector is among the cleanest in the world, with over 80% of generation already greenhouse gas free. CEA is proud to recognize those that are helping us build a greener Canada for generations to come.”

New this year, we invite Canadian utilities to apply for the Tom Mitchell Electric Vehicle Leadership Award which will recognize leadership in the education and promotion of electric vehicles. As in years past, the awards program also includes three categories for leadership in EV sales: Leading Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) Dealership Award, Leading Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) Dealership Award, and the EV Dealership Inspiration Award.

“Dealerships can have a significant influence on consumer perceptions about owning an EV and on EV adoption rates within a community. We all benefit when dealerships help drivers make the switch,” said Cara Clairman, President and CEO of Plug’n Drive. “More electric cars on the road means fewer harmful emissions and over $2,000 in savings for a driver each year on fuel and maintenance costs.”

“Consumers want choice and they want accurate information when it comes to choosing a vehicle,” said Ian Jack, Managing Director of Communications and Government Relations at the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA). “We’re proud to play a part in saluting dealers who make sure Canadians are informed about all their driving choices through their promotion of EVs.”
