Electricity Canada announces winners of the 2024 Lifesaving awards

Toronto (November 26) From saving a man who had a near-deadly heart attack at a generating station, to rescuing an elder from a burning building, to helping a passerby in need of medical attention, the recipients of this year’s Electricity Canada Lifesaving awards provided critical emergency care and used their first aid training, with compassion and bravery to assist members of their community and prevent potential tragedies.

Electricity Canada’s Lifesaving awards are granted annually to any on-duty employee of an Electricity Canada member company who was involved in a lifesaving attempt or acted to prevent further harm to someone who needed immediate help.

This year’s awards were presented at Electricity Canada’s annual Powering Partnerships summit in Toronto to outstanding individuals from four companies:

Fortis Alberta - Logan Cisar, Aidan Jamieson and Trevor Nederhoed

While on break from doing live-line work in Gleichen, Alberta, the employees noticed a man lying on the ground a few hundred metres away. When it was clear something was wrong, they got a defibrillator kit from their truck, assisted a passerby trying to call 911 and proceeded to administer CPR until the paramedics arrived.

Nova Scotia Power - Evan Thompson, Ray Anderson, Kevin Avery, Dale Anderson and Ryan McMullin and millwrights Junior Aucoin and Ralph Harrietta

Last May, one of the millwrights working at the Trenton Generating Station had a severe heart attack. They immediately sought the help of the emergency response team who began using the defibrillator to perform CPR and saved his life.

Hydro-Quebec - Michel Tremblay, Steven Carrière

In May 2024, while working on the job as lineworkers, Michel and Steven witnessed a person convulsing in their vehicle. Michel and Steven quickly removed the victim from their vehicle and began to perform CPR until first responders arrived.

Northwest Territories Power Corporation - Derwin Clille

Last August, a house in the community of Jean Marie River was on fire, as the plant operator there, Derwin attended the scene and discovered an elderly person trapped in the burning house. Derwin grabbed a ladder and took it to the window and rescued the elder out of the burning house, saving his life.
