OTTAWA (November 24, 2021) – Today, the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) recognized electric utility members across Canada who have demonstrated their dedication to occupational health and safety excellence in the past year. Safety will always be a paramount consideration for electricity companies from coast to coast and this award honours those companies who have demonstrated outstanding performances in the areas of health and safety.
“We have been giving Occupational Health and Safety awards to our membership for over 30 years now. It has and will always be, a key component of our industry from generation to customer,” commented Francis Bradley, President and CEO of the Canadian Electricity Association, “The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged us to stay on top of health and safety standards and best practices for the well-being of our employees and our customers. Although we have remained physically distant, we have never worked closer together to keep our sector as safe as possible.”
The President's Award is given to electricity service providers that achieved the top ranking in Total Recordable Injury Frequency (TRIF) amongst their peers of comparable size in generation, transmission, or distribution operations. There are two additional levels of recognition designated by Silver and Gold based on consecutive years of outstanding performance. Silver is awarded to utilities who have met criteria for two consecutive years and Gold is awarded to utilities criteria for 3 or more years.
“Employee health and safety is of paramount importance to all companies in our industry and making sure that everyone goes home safe at the end of the day drives us to continuously improve,” stated Rod Kause, Vice President, Environment, Health & Safety at AltaLink and Chair of CEA’s Occupational Health and Safety Committee, “The annual CEA Occupational Health and Safety Awards recognize the achievements of members for their dedication to improving safety performance in the electricity sector.
