TORONTO – November 16, 2017. Last night, the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) recognized electricity companies who exemplify the strongest health and safety records at their annual awards ceremony in Toronto.
“The Canadian electricity industry strives to be among the safest in the world,” said President and CEO of CEA Sergio Marchi. “This is the direct result of our members’ continued efforts and commitment to the well-being of their employees, contractors and customers.”
Each year, CEA tracks the safety record of its members and recognizes the top performers as part of the Occupational Health and Safety Awards program. The following electricity companies were recognized for excellence for the past year:
- AltaLink: Winner of the 2017 CEA President’s Award of Excellence for Employee Safety in Transmission Group 2
- ATCO: Winner of the 2017 CEA President’s Award of Excellence for Employee Safety in Generation Group 2
- BC Hydro: Winner of the 2017 Award for Individual Leadership in Safety
- Capital Power Corporation: Winner of the 2017 CEA President’s Award of Excellence for Employee Safety in Generation Group 3
- EPCOR Utilities: Winner of the 2017 CEA President’s Award of Excellence for Employee Safety in Transmission Group 3; Winner of the 2017 CEA President’s Award of Excellence for Employee Safety in Distribution Group 2
- Hydro One: Winner of the 2017 CEA President’s Award of Excellence for Employee Safety in Transmission Group 1
- New Brunswick Power Holding Corporation: Winner of the 2017 CEA President’s Award of Excellence for Employee Safety in Generation Group 1
- Saint John Energy: Winner of the 2017 CEA President’s Award of Excellence for Employee Safety in Distribution Group 3
- Toronto Hydro: Winner of the 2017 CEA President’s Award of Excellence for Employee Safety in Distribution Group 1
In addition to the Occupational Health and Safety awards, CEA also recognized heroic actions of fifteen employees from its utility member community. Introduced in 1922, the Lifesaving awards recognize employees of CEA members whose actions helped save a life, or prevented further harm to someone in need.
