Canadian Electricity Association Honours Maritime Electric Lifesaver

Ottawa (November 23, 2020)

Today, the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) honours Maritime Electric employee Wade Mackenzie for selflessly assisting a customer in a life-threatening situation. The award will be presented during the annual Occupational Health and Safety Awards Ceremony as part of the 2020 Virtual Powering Partnership Summit.

“Today, we proudly recognize a lifesaver within our industry, Wade MacKenzie. Our member employees are compassionate leaders and dedicated role models in their community,” said Francis Bradley, President and CEO of the Canadian Electricity Association. “CEA’s Lifesaver Awards are another way to celebrate the best of what our industry has to offer, and we are honoured to share their stories of resilience and leadership where lives are saved by their acts of kindness.”

For almost 100 years, CEA has been shining a light on those who go above and beyond the call of duty. The Lifesavers Awards are granted annually to employees of member companies who are involved in a lifesaving attempt. Some lifesavers are awarded for acting to prevent further harm to someone who needed immediate assistance.

This past March 2020, Wade Mackenzie, an employee from Maritime Electric, drove by a customer who was shoveling his driveway. The customer waved Wade over and he stopped to have a conversation. During their conversation, the customer suddenly collapsed on the ice, hit his head on the pavement and was knocked unconscious. The situation appeared dire as the customers hands clenched and his eyes glazed over. Noticing he was unresponsive, Wade called 911 and kept the customer comfortable until responders and E.M.S arrived.
