Newfoundland Power Recognized as a Leader in Resilience and Reliability

Ottawa (November 24, 2021) – Today, the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) honoured Newfoundland Power with the Resilience and Reliability Award for their dedication to meet the electricity needs of customers. Newfoundland Power is the recipient of CEA’s first ever Reliability Award having overcome obstacles and developing long term solutions in asset management, innovation in reliability, outage communications and overall reliability management.

“Reliability and resiliency are more important than ever as we encounter increasingly severe weather events with customers relying heavily on our grid. This award gives us the chance to recognize the hard work of our members like Newfoundland Power, who are actively pursuing opportunities to ensure that the enabler of our modern lifestyle is reliable for all customers,” commented Francis Bradley, President and CEO of the Canadian Electricity Association. “We are extremely honoured to be the first Canadian utility to receive CEA’s Resilience and Reliability Award,” said Gary Murray, President and CEO, Newfoundland Power Inc. “Our customers consistently tell us that when it comes to their electricity service, what’s most important is reliability and price. We take our responsibility of keeping the lights on for our customers very seriously and I’m very proud of all our employees who work hard every day to provide safe, reliable service at the lowest possible cost.”

Newfoundland Power is also a recognized Sustainable Electricity Company and was designated earlier in June of this year.

Submissions for the Resilience and Reliability award were reviewed by Dr. Janet Lam, Assistant Director and Dr. Chi-Guhn Lee, Director and Professor, from the University of Toronto’s Centre for Maintenance Optimization and Reliability Engineering (C-MORE) as well as CEA staff.
