Remarks – annual Washington Board Policy Forum | Hon. Sergio Marchi, President & CEO, CEA

Members of the Board of the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) were in Washington, D.C. from April 10 to 13, 2018, to meet with representatives of the White House, members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, the Canadian Ambassador, as well as prominent thought-leaders, think tanks and U.S. energy associations. The trip was part of CEA’s annual Washington Board Policy Forum, which aims to advance bilateral energy policy. CEA’s President and CEO Sergio Marchi delivered the attached speech at a dinner hosted for the occasion at the Canadian Embassy in Washington. Mr. Marchi highlighted five critical issues to the energy relationship between Canada and US:

  • protecting the progress we have made;
  • successfully concluding NAFTA re-negotiations, including the strengthening of Chapter 6;
  • developing a North American Energy Strategy, with or without NAFTA
  • protecting the grid against ever increasing cyber threats
  • supporting infrastructure renewal through regulatory cooperation
